SubTracker - Proposed Feature List
Software - SubTracker
The direction of this software has changed - or rather expanded - so I'm replacing the previous list with a broader notion of the features. I'm short on time for now so this is really short, but will be expanded:
Supported platforms and operating systems
SubTracker will run happily on Mac, Windows and most linux distributions.
It does not run on iPhones, iPads or iPods. I have no current plans to include them, as it involves redeveloping the software in an entirely different programming language and dealing with Apple's developer and approval process. Most likely, that goes for other smartphones as well.
Track publishers and agents (and POD companies)
Aimed largely at tracking the traditional areas:
- record pertinent details of agents and publishers, for example:
- accepted genres and word counts
- contact details
- submission procedure and preferences
- advertised (and automatically-recorded 'actual') response times
- open/closed for submissions, rates and rights
Track submissions and publications
Track your work from draft through to publication (and beyond) in:
- 'traditional' arenas (agents, editors, publishers)
- automatically submit queries via email within the program
- notifies you when something is beyond the posted response time
- suggests the best next-avenue for your work, based on your preferences (eg "which magazine would pay the most for this story?)
- notifies you of obligations from previous contracts (eg first refusal rights for next book of this series/genre)
- indie/self publishing venues (amazon, smashwords, etc)
- one-off or recurring events (grants, competitions)
- non-paying venues (workshops, track which pieces are with an editor right now, etc)
Track rights, payments, royalties and sales
- import your sales reports from publishers
- view your sales / money made over any period (month, day, week, specific date range)
- view for a title, series, collection, pseudonym, genre or selected list of stories
- track which rights you licensed, sold, (some) reversion clauses (ie dates or minimum money/sales)
Track expenditure and advertising efforts
- record the dates, money and time spent on advertising campaigns, and compare with the sales of the relevant titles
- record expenditure on editing / cover / any other aspect of developing the word in both time and/or money
More features (and a more fleshed-out version of the above) to come as time and inspiration coincide.
