Blog - The Writer's Life
Time for the yearly tradition of making promises to ourselves with the best intentions, and the sticky-note on the side saying "unless it's really really hard"... as the years go by, I've seen fewer and fewer 'really's attached there, so I'm taking a new tack with my goals: they're things that I intend to do anyway, rather than additional things I'd like to dream I'll do. And they're entirely within my control.
Personal goals for 2010
- Finish Commerce Masters (one semester remaining)
- sub-goal: attain degree with distinction
- Finish SubTracker version 1.3
- Travel
- Fix the current issues with the site:
- PDF formatting fail
- Contact form formatting fail
- Add a turing-hidden regular email on contact page for people with form-phobia
- Finish content (jewellery page)
General writer goals for 2010 - Promotion
- Publish 100 blog posts
- Publish 150 tweets
- Make 100 comments on other blogs
General writer goals for 2010 - Writing
- Write and submit 5 short stories
- Resubmit any story that is returned
- Submit 5 poems
- resubmit any poem that is returned
- Finish that novel draft (mine is Shadowren)
None of this "get my novel accepted" rubbish that depends on someone else's opinion. These are all about the effort, not the result, which is (in my newly formed opinion) how goals really should be. The only thing remaining is the carrot - sure, I intend to do all these anyway, but what special reward do I get if I complete all the things on the list? Maybe I'll get myself an ebook reader, or an iPod Touch. Or, if I'm feeling flush, a kiln.
What're your goals for 2010?
